However, support for the game’s online features ended in 2012 when network provider GameSpy shut down their Star Wars: Battlefront servers, with a similar service not being included in the title’s later Steam release… until now. While more recent EA-released titles like Star Wars: Battlefront II and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order have been getting the lion’s share of attention from Star Wars gaming fans lately, both the first Star Wars: Battlefront and the series that sprang from it still remain popular years after their releases, with the 2005 sequel still ranking as one of the best Star Wars games of all time.Ĭoinciding with the original Star Wars trilogy’s first DVD release in 2004, the original Star Wars: Battlefront allowed players to take on the role of one of the various unnamed soldiers who battled throughout both the Original Trilogy and the first two Prequels in either single-player skirmishes or wider battles with up to 64 players through online multiplayer.
Thanks to a new update, the original Star Wars: Battlefront is getting multiplayer support on Steam starting today.
